Is Group Coaching For You?
Some people prefer coaching within a group, rather than one-on-one coaching. To determine which option is best for you, ask yourself the following questions:
- Are you the type of person who benefits from the collective wisdom and experience created by a group?
- Do you find yourself energized by groups and so would rather experience coaching in a group environment, rather than one-on-one?
- Are you interested in coaching, but at a more affordable hourly rate?
- Would you like to have the members of the group hold you accountable so that you can create more successes in the major areas of your personal and professional life?
- Are you eager to explore how your whole team could benefit from participating in a group coaching program, having heard others talk about their Return On Investment from coaching?
- Are you interested in continuing and deepening the learning from a recent training program or retreat?
Group Coaching, The Basics
If the answer is yes, then consider group coaching. In group coaching programs, coaching principles are adapted for small groups. Sessions are held in person, but more commonly by phone, for client convenience. In fact, if you participate by phone, you can even participate in your pajamas and no one will be the wiser! Groups are small; usually 4-12 people and programs are based on a central concept or theme.
The Benefits to Individuals of Group Coaching Programs
There are a number of reasons that some people prefer group coaching programs to individual coaching. Some of the core reasons group coaching is popular include:
- It’s more affordable than individual coaching.
- It makes it easier for people to realize their goals because of group support.
- It encourages authentic expression from participants.
- The collective wisdom of the group can be harnessed.
- You receive support from both the coach and group members.
- Long term friendships are formed.
- People become more accountable.
- Individuals become inspired as they see others realize their goals.
- People gain a bigger vision of what’s possible.
- Collegial relationships are formed between like-minded people who have the same purpose/goal, etc.
- Personal development is enabled in a safe, confidential environment.
- Participants report improved health and well-being
- Professional development skills and tools are acquired.
